We believe that technology should enable both individual and collective agency. We commit to designing technologies that enshrine participants’ ownership and control of their information.

 
 

  • We honor the privacy of our users, and never share their data without informed consent.

  • We endeavor to design products that are usable and accessible to all people, across ability, culture, and context.

  • We design trustful networks in order to mitigate the erosion of trust within and across communities

Justice

We believe that technology is not neutral. We commit to using our platforms to combat inequity, injustice, and oppression and build safety and inclusiveness in our digital spaces.

 
 

  • We center civil and human rights in the design and development of our tools and platforms.

  • We commit to equitable distribution of compensation and recognition in our work.

  • We acknowledge and uplift traditional, indigenous, and local knowledge in our design and development practices.

Openness

We believe that openness is essential if we are to work together to address our greatest challenges. We commit to building technologies that enable the flow of data, information and knowledge across platforms aligned with these principles.

 
 

  • We communicate clearly, honestly and transparently with our users and stakeholders.

  • We support and encourage open source code, open books, and open sharing of ideas, knowledge and wisdom.

  • We commit to interoperability, working to integrate our platforms wherever possible through APIs and/or the adoption of standard protocols and schemas for identity, authentication and data sharing.

Emergence

We believe in the power of emergent, living systems that are dynamic and adaptive to their environment. We are committed to constantly learning and growing together as we collaborate.

 
 

  • We incorporate feedback loops into our design processes and are always open to adapt and evolve our technology and processes to new voices and ideas.
